About Us

Grayshaw & Yeo Gardening Company was established in 2012 by Emily Grayshaw & Jude Yeo after having worked together for 3 years maintaining private gardens in and around Godalming.

Both of our backgrounds involve a love of the outdoors and gardening. We have enjoyed working side by side for over ten years, encouraging fellow gardeners to find a career in horticulture by providing a nurturing space for their interest in gardening to flourish.

One of our favourite parts of running Grayshaw & Yeo Gardening Company is opening opportunities for people looking for careers in gardening. Over time, we have developed the skills needed to assess gardeners’ key qualities. This means we can place them with clients whose gardens will be inspiring, so they can do the best possible job for our customers.

By creating a supportive team, with gardeners in communication with one another, sharing experience and knowledge, we have built a company that we feel incredibly proud of.

In 2019, we both studied for our Professional Diploma in Garden Design and in 2021 we founded our sister company, Inspired Earth Design.  Our studio has already won two coveted RHS Gold Medals with the ‘Lunch Break Garden’ in 2022 and ‘The America’s Wild Show Garden’ in 2023.

I grew up on a working farm and lived in this environment until I was 21. I learnt about land management, garden maintenance and developing and managing a kitchen garden. After a brief period away from all things green I returned several years ago to my ‘roots’.

I began by helping friends and relatives and then by renting an allotment and growing vegetables and flowers.

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to meet Emily and was able to channel my knowledge into a career and learn how to professionally maintain and develop other people’s gardens. This is when the seeds were sown for Grayshaw & Yeo Gardening.

I absolutely love encouraging people into horticulture as it has the well deserved accolade of the friendliest industry.  I feel incredibly proud of the high number of team members who have completed their RHS Level 2 and are going on to further improve their skills.  It’s been inspirational to see people’s confidence grow.

My career highlight (so far!) has been our two RHS Gold medals, an achievement that was nothing more than a dream 5 years ago!  It’s proof that if you believe in yourself and work hard you can reach and exceed your goals.

I began my career as a gardener in 2001 at a herb nursery where I became a quality control manager. When the owners retired, I began work for Notcutts Garden Centre and was the Outdoor Manager at Cranleigh for a number of years, managing the department and advising customers.

I went on to work for Coblands Trade Nursery where I worked with garden designers to put together plant orders.

After my first son was born, I needed to cut down my hours and became a gardener at an NGS garden, where I gained a huge amount of knowledge about garden maintenance. Once my second son was born, I began maintaining gardens locally. I met Judith through the school and discovered we both loved gardening and wanted to create a business out of it.

Ciarran has been taking excellent care of our garden for the last 2 years. She is attentive, knowledgeable and communicative, and her monthly visits have made such a difference - it's now a flourishing, lovely space to spend time in. Thanks to Grayshaw and Yeo for putting us in touch, and to Jude for her early help getting our garden back in shape. Would highly recommend.

This its a very good gardening company which I have used for more than 5 years. Jackie comes about every 3 to 4 weeks between March and November, excepting the hot summer months, usually July and August when the flowers are just blooming, and the grass is hardly growing.

Jo has been tending to my garden for a year now, transforming it from a neglected patch into a pleasurable space to be in. She brings a high level of professionalism and extensive horticultural knowledge to every task, from design and planting advice to the pruning of a monstrous Buddleja and the planting of trees. Jo's proactive communication about scheduling and gardening tips really show her dedication to improving the garden and making my life easier! I highly recommend her services to anyone seeking top-quality gardening with a personal touch.
