Rotherhill Nurseries & Garden Centre

Rotherhill is a family-run nursery less than 10 minutes from Midhurst, offering a huge range of plants, many of which are grown by the nursery itself. The range includes everything from 5 litre to 50 litre+ shrubs, trees, perennials, annuals and much more. Their focus is solely on plants, dedicating the entire site to high quality plants. They have been featured in gardens at RHS Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Show, as well as in several articles recognizing the excellence of their plants.

Pulborough Garden Centre

Pulborough Garden Centre is a 20-minute drive from Midhurst. Located in the heart of the South Downs, this garden centre is renowned for its scenic beauty. It also offers a vast range of gardening products, with an expansive plant area, plus gifts, homeware, and furniture.

The South Downs Light Railway is located within the centre’s plant area, providing a great activity for all ages. There is a restaurant on site, Gardener’s Retreat Restaurant, with meals, snacks and a range of drinks, plus a soft play for children.

Woolbeding Gardens

Woolbeding Gardens are managed by the National Trust and located just outside of Midhurst. Described as a “horticultural haven”, visitors can enjoy an array of colourful planting, a contemporary glass house and beautiful countryside views. There are formal gardens merging with rural landscapes, sculptures and foliage, cultivated borders and picturesque follies.  

There is no parking on or around gardens, but there is a complimentary shuttle bus run from Midhurst. All visits must be prebooked and the price includes the bus journey to and from the gardens.

West Dean Gardens

West Dean Gardens are less than 15 minutes’ drive from Midhurst. Nestled in the heart of the South Downs, visitors can enjoy a gentle walk around the site, exploring a wide range of historic features, including surreal trees, flora, a restored walled garden and a collection of working Victorian Glasshouses.

There is a Gardens Restaurant offering seasonal menu, plus a gift shop with a range that should interest the keen gardeners out there. Tickets can be bought upon arrival or prebooked. RHS members can enjoy free access to the gardens outside of high season. Dogs on a short lead are welcome.
